As three self-proclaimed visionaries race to colonise Mars, their rockets threaten to destroy Liverpool, and the people left behind must try to survive the fallout of someone else’s big idea.
The Visionaries is a darkly comic sci-fi short set in an alternate Liverpool, where NASA has relocated to the city and the world’s richest billionaires are Scousers.
As three self-proclaimed visionaries prepare to launch their private missions to Mars, ordinary people across Liverpool are left to navigate the fallout of someone else’s big idea. Blending satire, surreal worldbuilding and emotional realism, the film explores power, delusion, class, ego and the human cost of billionaire ambition.
Created using a hybrid visual style combining handmade miniature sets, green screen live-action, motion-captured 3D characters and digital compositing, The Visionaries turns Liverpool into a warped cardboard sci-fi landscape: funny, strange, recognisable and quietly terrifying.
